A Place I Always Want To Visit

There is one album that I always listen to. There is one album that has a special place in my heart. There is one album that I want to be the last thing I listen to. That album is Neptune’s Lair.

I have the clearest of memories of when I first listened to Drexciya’s, now legendary, Neptune’s Lair. Lying on my bed, listening on headphones while being carried by the waves of this wonderful piece of Detroit’s electronic music history.

It is considered, by many, to be the most important and influential work from the production duo. It was nothing short of a milestone for electronic music. Their approach to the sound, full of emotion, intelligence, and most importantly, the way they took the listener on journey are what gives this album som much strength and weight. In keeping with all things Detroit, this album was futuristic, forward thinking and full of, Detroit’s most important ingredient, funk. Even in today’s heavily saturated electronic music scene, Neptune’s Lair holds it’s own. It is and to put it very simply, timeless.

For over 12 years this album has brought me nothing but pleasure every single time I put it on. If you are looking for a true electronic album, full of colour and imagination. You must look into the water and at Neptune’s Lair. For something that first rose from the depths in 1999, it feels so fresh, that it might even be made tomorrow.

Some People Call It Electro

There’s something very special going around on the internet right now. Some people call it electro.

For some it was an almost forgotten genre. Over the past few years the term electro has been hijacked, twisted, and got itself wrapped around some sort of house music and even certain strains of dubstep got attached to it too. I don’t even know where to begin with who, how or why but thanks to a few like minded individuals in a Facebook group, it’s here to take it’s name back. It’s doing so with some style too.

Here we have compilation of, a truly amazing, 116 tracks that has been put together. A wonderful, all-encompassing journey through electro. Tracks that hint back at the roots of electro, to precision filled, intricately programmed stunners and even some straight up, dancefloor weapons. Something for every fans ear to love and for new ears to find out about and learn to adore. I can’t recommend a better way to educate a new listener to the genre then having them list to this.

For many new to electro, this music will be pretty much unrelated to anything that they’ll find on mainstream dance music websites and this is why it’s proving itself. Not there is much need. The ideas, melodies, and rawness that runs through electro and through this compilation will have fans smiling from ear to ear and leave many new listeners wondering how and why they have not heard music like this before.

Electro is dead. Long live electro.
